The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
Season 1 introduces a diverse group of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with songs detailing their conflicts, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator commented recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
