The deal values the Mercedes team at £4.6bn – a record for an F1 team – after the McLaren team were valued at £3.5bn in a change of corporate structure in September. The Austrian executive, who owns a 33% stake of the Mercedes F1 operation, would sell a stake in the region of 5%. Wolff, aged 53 would stay on as team principal and CEO if the sale goes through. Shareholder Structure The other shareholders in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes-Benz and industrial group Ineos Group, who each also own a third of the company. A Mercedes spokesperson stated: "We will be making no comment on this. The management structure of Mercedes F1 will remain unaltered, and each shareholder are dedicated to the ongoing success of Mercedes-Benz in F1." Financial Growth The deal signifies a significant increase in worth of Mercedes F1 since Ineos Group acquired its share for £208 million in 2022. This surge reflects the expansion in market values of Formula 1 outfits recently as a consequence of the increasing appeal of Formula 1 around the world. This was also seen in the box-office performance of the F1 movie featuring Brad Pitt, which was released last summer and has grossed more than $630 million (£458 million) at cinemas worldwide. The film represents Pitt's most successful film and the highest-earning sports film ever released. Current Standings Mercedes are runner-up in the constructors' championship, trailing McLaren, with three races remaining this season. Their lead driver George Russell has won two of the 21 races this year and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship after McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen. The team won a unprecedented eight consecutive team titles and seven drivers' titles, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one by Nico Rosberg, between 2014 to 2021.
